Abstract: Donating a car to a non-profit organization can be simple and fast. And, it provides you a tax write-off.

Do you have a vehicle that:

  • you can't use,
  • you can no longer drive, or
  • a vehicle that no longer runs?

Please consider donating it to PXE International

PXE International is the official non-profit organization that One Paycheck at a Time sponsors.  The below questions and answers about donating a car are specific to the process that PXE International follows.

Their research to helping find a cure for blindness with people affected with PXE is critical and timely.  One Paycheck at a Time would like to thank you in advance for donating your car to PXE International.

Question:
What kind of vehicle can be
donated?

Answer:
PXE International accepts most vehicles and vessels including but not limited to cars, trucks, trailers, boats and RV's.

Question:
Is my donation tax deductible?

Answer:
Yes. PXE International is classified with the IRS as a non-profit charitable organization. Donations are tax deductible to the full extent of the law. Individual tax situations vary so please check with a tax professional to determine what, if any, tax benefit you may receive.

For more information on charitable donations, please consult
IRS Publication 526 – Charitable Contributions.

Question:
When donating a vehicle how does a tax deduction work?

Answer:
The IRS allows you, the taxpayer, to claim a tax deduction of
(a) the value of your vehicle up to $500, or
(b) if we sell the vehicle for more than $500, we will mail you a postcard with that value for your tax purposes.

For additional information, the IRS provides
IRS Publication 4303 - A Donor’s Guide to Vehicle Donations which sets forth the manner in which the IRS requires you to determine the value of your donated property.

Question:
What paperwork is needed to donate my vehicle?

Answer:
We would like the title to the vehicle, but if you do not have it please call PXE International anyway. It is possible that other arrangements may be made.

Question:

My car hasn't run in years. Can I still donate it?

Answer:
Yes, we are able to accept most vehicles running or not (exceptions include older vehicles whose value would not offset the cost of towing).

Question:

Can you pick up vehicles in all 50 states?

Answer:
Yes, we are able to pick up accepted vehicles in the continental U.S. and Hawaii.

Question:
How will my car be picked up?

Answer:
We will arrange to have your vehicle towed away by a professionally licensed, bonded and insured towing company.

Question:

How long will it take to pick up my car?

Answer:
Once you express interest in donating your car, you will be contacted within four business days at the most. If you need your car picked up sooner, please let us know as we may be able to make those arrangements as well.

Question:
Who do I contact to donate my car?

Answer:
Please donate your car to PXE International by completing their car donation online form.
